Independent at Hart: Celebrating a Year of Progress
A year in review by Alan Perestrello
As we near the end of 2024, I’ve been reflecting on my first year as Managing Director of Hart Square, following the acquisition of it from the Clear Course Group. This milestone marked the beginning of an exciting new chapter in Hart Square’s 15-year history, not as something entirely new but as a return to our core values – reaffirming the impartiality, trust, and sector expertise that have always defined us.
The decision to acquire Hart Square came from a personal connection. Having worked alongside the organisation for over a decade, I’ve seen first-hand the positive impact Hart Square has had on the non-profit sector. I believed passionately in the value an independent Hart Square could continue to provide – offering truly impartial advice, tailored solutions, and trusted support to our clients and partners. This independence has allowed us to focus entirely on doing what we do best: providing unwavering, expert guidance to our clients and ensuring that every decision we make is in their best interests. It’s been a year of embracing this legacy, preserving the exceptional foundations built over the years, and building on them with innovation and collaboration at the “Hart.”
By the way, I will admit that it took me about 4 months to realise that Hart is an old-english term for a mature red deer stag, traditionally one more than five years old. The word was used mainly by medieval English aristocratic hunters in reference to their most prestigious game animal. I am indeed learning all the time these days and loving it. This year has been about striking the balance between preserving the values that have always defined us and embracing new opportunities to grow and improve.

Having worked with Hart Square for over ten years, I got to know some of the individuals quite well and them me. That familiarity with the business and the people helped me immensely in getting to know the business and to get up and running in a short time. It is a testament to the team we have in their ability and patience to get me up to speed in what can sometimes be a complicated business.
I am immensely grateful to each and every one of them who has put in the extra effort to ensure we maintained services to clients through the transition.
A Year of Growth and Achievement
2024 has been a year of progress and partnership. Through the 27 projects delivered this year, we have continued to foster long-term relationships, embarking on journeys of transformation with our clients.
Here are some highlights from the year:
- Grown our team significantly, bringing back experienced team members ensuring we continue to support clients.
- Reintroduced face-to-face learning events, attending two major exhibitions to connect directly with organisations.
- Hosted 12 webinars, offering valuable insights and practical advice, in which we have seen a 322% increase in webinar registrants, showing the growing appetite for the expertise we bring.
- We’ve also had the privilege of collaborating with some incredible experts and thought leaders, showcasing 19 guest speakers through our events and initiatives. To all who’ve joined us and contributed, thank you for sharing your expertise and enriching our community.
Looking Ahead
Change is a fundamental part of every project. It should be the constant that keeps organisations successful, enabling them to respond to evolving needs. It’s also how organisations can take advantage of emerging technologies to innovate and create lasting impact.
